Myself

May 25th, 2007 by ophiucus

I lost at the paper competition. I don’t know about you guys, but I feel that my lost was not a fair one. I lost because what I’ve believed in and in this cruel country I think it is possible to lose that way. Anyway, I’ve lost that competition and I don’t regret the experience I’ve got during that.

Yesterday, 3 of my friends were announced as the student exchange participants to Genome Institute of Singapore. I don’t know, but somehow I didn’t register myself and now I felt rather sorry for myself and envious. 2 of them are very good friends of mine which I chose as my paper partners for their wits and their logics.

Sometimes I feel that I have to be braver in facing this harsh world. I have to take every chances lie in front of me. I’m not going to miss those chances anymore.

On May 30 I’m going to start my research about dengue viruses in NAMRU. I am going to work hard and do my best to graduate in 3.5 years.

I want to go to Sweden for my Master degree. I don’t know which course I should take. I am still confused whether to take Neurobiology, Applied Biotechnology, Molecular Medical Diagnosis, and Pharmaceutical Engineering.

Right now, I need to identify the Bacillus sphaericus first and watch Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. I also need to finish a lot of tasks first.

It’s amazing how time flies and we don’t realize it until it has past us. I often wonders how can I miss so many things in life. So many things to do in so little time and yet my friends keep asking me where do I get my "extra" time. Hahaha.

I am 89.8 kg.

Babble

Yup, there are going to be some topics written here.

The first topic is about my trip to Cibodas. It was a great one. I went there with my fellow laboratory assistants. Well, we really did explore the national park. We searched for some mushrooms and also took some soil.

I also got the chance to see the Amorphophallus titanum, the big and smelly flower. Hehe. It was quite hard to find that flower. We searched the national park from the valley to the summit, yet we found nothing. Just when we thought we wouldn’t be able to find it, we were told by our laboratory technician that the flower was close to the bus park.

The second topic is about Pastamatrix. Yup, I went to that restaurant a few days ago with some of my friends. My ordered dish was good but not Nani’s. I could  see her struggling putting the pasta inside her mouth. Hahahaha.

The third topic is about Jakarta traffic jam. I’ve experienced the jam in Jakarta. During my stay in Jakarta, I’ve only been driven by a friend once and he drove smoothly and carefully. But, he’s an exception. The rest of my friends drive recklessly and a bit hectic. Listening to the story around me, I’ve come to the conclusion that Jakarta traffic jam is caused by reckless driver all around Jakarta.

The fourth topic is about my weight. I really don’t know what’s going on but I keep on gaining and gaining weight. This is scary.

The fifth topic is about the paper competition I’m involved. This competition is starting to get on my nerves. I have to skip classes from Monday to Friday. I really hate this.

Well, that’s all I could tell you for the moment.

I am 89.5 kg (see, I’ve told you this is getting scary).

Melinda Doolittle

May 17th, 2007 by ophiucus

Today I read a very shocking news. Melinda Doolittle was kicked from American Idol. This is crazy. From the start until the latest performances, she was almost impeccable. I think she is the best American Idol contestant ever.

America should see and hear better.

I am 89.8 kg.

Korean Food

April 25th, 2007 by ophiucus

I and my friends are developing a group called "Connoisseur". A group who loves to eat delicious food from around the world.

Well, last Sunday we went to a Korean restaurant and the food was delicious yet inexpensive. The portions are large.

Next time we are going to try to eat Vietnamese food or try some potstickers. No wonder I am gaining weight (sigh….).

I am 88.7 kg.

What is the Most Beautiful Love?

April 16th, 2007 by ophiucus

Well, I have a weird affection with drama films which have sad endings. Most of my friends find that weird or exaggerating.

After seeing many films with sad endings, I realize that the most beautiful love is not a completed love but a love which is forbidden. Whether we realize it or not, most beautiful love stories are uncompleted love.

A simple example is the Romeo and Juliet. We all know what the ending is, a sad ending indeed, but this story is a love story that we could say transcends time and generation because of its beauty.

A sad ending doesn’t necessarily depict the dead of the lovers. Many other forms of sad endings exist. When the protagonist can’t be with his/her beloved, that’s a sad ending. When the protagonist encouraged his/her loved one to be with other person, that’s a sad ending.

Hahaha, sad endings are just beautiful…

Let’s see, it seems that many people have seen this blog and see the progress of my diet plan…. which had failed….

Hahahaha.

I am now 88.8 kg (nice number).

Yay

Yay, I got some money today from the scientific paper competition.

Thanks to Mesa and Stella who encouraged me to take part in the scientific paper competition.

I would also like to thank Memel and Sherly.

(Why do I feel like an Oscar winner?)

Well, I am now 88.1 kg.

Being a Laboratory Assistant

March 30th, 2007 by ophiucus

Do I have to be a jerk to become a laboratory assistant?

Well, I won’t sell my dignity that low… And I think neither will my fellow assistants.

Maybe envy is something that people should control. I don’t recall giving tough question for anyone’s test.

There’s a small difference between a difficult test and the fact that you don’t study. In a difficult test, there won’t be anyone that get their mark higher than 80%. If you don’t study, it’s more likely that you will get lower than 60% while some of your friends get higher than 80%.

Well, I think a certain fellow need to understand this before citing irresponsible and naive comments in public.

Please behave in the future.

Heck, I am 87.4 kg.

It’s 3:21

February 9th, 2007 by ophiucus

It is 3:21 in the morning and I still haven’t slept yet.

I have just finished a small part of my report which I had been doing since last Sunday.

I wonder if my report will be finished next Tuesday.

My regret for today is why does Food Technology has to be taken by me this semester? How awful to have such atrocious schedule too. Just when I thought I could sit back and relax this semester.

Right now, I am sleepy and I am going to bed soon.

86.4 kg.

Thank You VDP NAMRU-2

February 3rd, 2007 by ophiucus

I’ve finished my internship last Friday.

It was really fun being in VDP NAMRU-2. I gained so much knowledge that I wouldn’t get in campus.

The last thing to do now is to finish my report as soon as possible and face the test. I hope I can do that well.

But right now, I want to thank everyone in VDP NAMRU-2.

I am 86.7 kg.

NAMRU-2

January 12th, 2007 by ophiucus

Finally, I’ve started my internship programme in NAMRU-2 Jakarta. I am enjoying working there. The workers are very nice, friendly, and skillful.

I was taught how to extract RNA from viruses on my first day followed by RT-PCR and semi nested PCR on the second day. Although I failed in my first attempt, I got my result for dengue virus detection today.

Hope I can finish my internship programme well.

Still 84.0 kg.
